Spend Your Nights Here, We'll Always Be up Late

The lights were dimmed, except for a small orange lamp on a coffee table. Then he emerged alone, in a simple button down maroon shirt and jeans. The set started with my favorite song, "Sorry, So Sorry" and ended with an oldie but goodie, "Madrigals". For a full hour and a half, I had no worries. Howie Day captivated and held my attention by himself, rotating between playing the guitar and piano.

He has had his ups and downs, but for me, he has maintained his position as one of my favorite artists for about 10 years. I call that staying power. I've seen him nearly 10 times and each and every single time, I leave in awe. I could go on and on, but I will let his music do the talking.

A life without fear

I just recently realized how much fear plays a role in our lives. Imagine a life without fear. Eliminate fear of flying, failure, nonacceptance, loneliness, weight gain, weight loss, rejection, death, and disease. How would you behave?

Some fear is necessary in a functional society, but close your eyes and just think of how different your life would be if you didn't let fear get in the way of doing and getting what you want. Take a chance and leap.

Here's my challenge to you, live your life without letting fear control it. Do what makes you happy. Do what you want without fear.

Relevant quotes:

Fear of failure must never be a reason not to try something.” Frederick Smith

Always do what you are afraid to do.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

You block your dream when you allow your fear to grow bigger than your faith.” Mary Manin Morrissey

Fear makes strangers of people who would be friends.” Shirley MacLaine

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” Marianne Williamson

Fear is a darkroom where negatives develop.
